MRHS Graduation Processional

 

While the Class of 2020 will not be able to enjoy the traditional graduation processional into the tent as in past years, students will be able to mark the occasion with a public processional to the high school grounds prior to graduation. 

The MRHS graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2020, starting at 8 p.m. The ceremony is open to the graduates only, with families and community members encouraged to watch the livestream of the event from the comfort and safety of their homes. There will be social distancing protocols in place for the students, and all students will be required to wear a mask during the ceremony. This plan was created after listening to feedback from students and families, and in accordance with town officials and state and local public health guidelines. 

Prior to the start of the graduation ceremony, students in the MRHS Class of 2020 will be able to participate in a vehicle processional, traveling from Chatham to Harwich and ending at Monomoy Regional High School shortly prior to the start of the ceremony.

In order to maintain safety and adhere to public health guidelines, please note the following details and reminders:

  • Students will meet at Our Lady of Grace Church in Chatham by 6:15 p.m. on June 23.
  • Students will travel individually/one per car. 
  • We encourage students to wear their cap and gown, if desired. If the cap and gown are not worn for the processional, please ensure that students are in possession of them, as the processional will lead directly into the graduation ceremony. 
  • Students are encouraged to decorate their cars, keeping in mind visibility and safety for both themselves and other drivers. 
  • The graduation processional will depart at 6:30 p.m. from Our Lady of Grace Church in Chatham, turning onto Route 28.
  • The processional will continue along Route 28 through Harwich Port, turning right onto South Street, then right onto Sisson Road, right onto Route 39, and left onto Oak Street. Students will then enter the MRHS property and proceed to their assigned parking location.

  • Students may not stop along the route, for both safety and timeliness.
  • The MRHS Graduation Processional is supported by our local public safety teams, with Chatham Police and Fire and Harwich Police and Fire positioned at the start and end of the procession and at intersections along the way. 
  • While the processional is in motion, students must refrain from leaning out of windows/sunroofs and cannot throw anything from their vehicle (candy, etc.).  
  • We encourage families, friends, and community members to stand a safe distance apart at spots along the route to cheer on the graduation processional as the students pass by. Please note that processional spectators may not park at MRHS.

Note: Graduates who are not participating in the processional must be at MRHS by 7:30 p.m.

The processional should end at MRHS at approximately 7:30 p.m., to allow students time to get into position for the graduation ceremony to begin at 8 p.m., and to allow families time to return home to view the livestream.
While this is a new tradition for our community, we are confident that, with the cooperation of students, families, community members, and public safety, the MRHS Graduation Processional will honor and celebrate the Class of 2020!
